The Cafe will be open 12-4pm on Sundays, 2 June – 29 September in 2019, and we need your support to make our summer as successful as possible.

Thank you!

Our Mission

The Cafe is a Community Interest Company with three central aims:

Promoting Hogacre Common Eco Park

The Eco Park is our home, and a place for the public to engage with local wildlife, environmental issues, and low-carbon ways of living. The Cafe hosts events, shares information, and provides a meeting place to promote the Eco Park’s goals.

We work especially closely with OxGrow, our neighbouring community garden within the Eco Park. The Cafe brings OxGrow volunteers together to relax and chat over a free communal meal after a hard day’s work.

Putting Good Food to Good Use

The Cafe engages with environmentally sound food habits, through vegetarian and vegan cooking and the use of local suppliers. We make use of surplus food from our partners OxGrow and the Oxford Food Bank, with our Food Waste Ambassadors sharing their recipes, ideas, and techniques for making the most of food that might otherwise be thrown away.

Investing In Local People

The Cafe will be working with local employment charity Aspire to offer work experience and support local people to move towards and into employment.

All of our trainees, volunteers, and paid staff are offered training and opportunities to take on leadership roles in the growth and development of the Cafe.

A little bit about the Cafe at Hogacre Common

Here are a few things that are important to us.

Making food that is kind to people and the planet

Cutting out meat and animal-products from our diets is one way of reducing our carbon footprint. We love finding tasty new ways of eating our five-a-day, to keep both people and the planet healthy and happy.

  Going organic

Whilst we can’t promise a 100% organic menu, we’re working towards it. Nearly all of our fresh fruit and veg is organic (apart from some herbs, fruit and occasional veg emergencies).

  Local produce

We buy what we can directly from Oxfordshire’s Sandy Lane Farm but sometimes have to look further afield, in the UK and to Europe, for our veg. The bread and pastries that we serve are all hand-kneaded, by Oxford’s Natural Bread Company.

How to get involved at Hogacre Common Eco Park

Here are some ways you can get involved at your local eco park.

Join the monthly work party at Hogacre Common

On the fourth Sunday of every month, 2-4pm, we get together to take care of the common and help Hogacre thrive. Jobs include removing tree guards, staking trees, labelling fruit trees, planting meadow flower seeds, cutting fire wood, building raised beds on the hard tennis court and much more! No experience neccessary, all welcome.

Get involved in our community garden OxGrow

Every Sunday 1-5pm OxGrowers gather at Hogacre's community allotment to learn new skills, help plant, grow and reap the harvest. No experience neccessary, all welcome.
