Our Directors

Helen Morley

Every summer since 2017 Helen has been cooking up vegetarian and vegan food at Hogacre, with support from friends, family, and her helpers Simon and Suzie.

Alongside her work at Hogacre, Helen is a Communications Officer at the School of Geography and the Environment, working with academics to explain and share their research on the environment.

She loves meeting new people, good food and drink, and watching the seasons change at Hogacre Common.


Minh Nguyen

Minh started helping Helen at the Cafe in 2018, and has now joined her as a Director of the Cafe. As a keen experimenter in the kitchen, Minh is especially looking forward to learning and sharing recipe ideas as part of our Food Waste Ambassador Programme.

Outside of the Cafe, Minh is an economist, a crossword blogger, and a board game designer. And with many years’ experience running the winter sessions for East Oxford Ultimate Frisbee, Minh has proven that he can organise a pick-up in Fe-brewery.


Our Cafe Managers

Charlotte Maciszonek

Charlotte has joined the Cafe at Hogacre Team this May and is really excited about experiencing her first summer at Hogacre with lovely people, delicious food, new recipes and lots of sunshine.

When not at the Cafe, Charlotte works as part of Oxford City Council's Culture Team. Things that make her most happy are a cup of delicious coffee with cake, a walk along the Thames, a pint with friends and a good board gaming session.


Carro Vickers-Pinchbeck

For many years Carro has daydreamed of eco-projects, clean energy and ways to make the world a little greener. When the vacancy to work at the Cafe at Hogacre Common popped up Carro leapt at the chance! He’s new to the area so busy exploring all the fun sites in and around Oxford.

Carro’s a BIG Sci-Fi geek, occasionally tries to keep fit and he’s a bit of a hippie.


Replenish Food Waste Ambassador Chefs

Daniel Cairney

Daniel is a former art student and animal carer, now working at Happy Friday Kitchen on Cowley Road. His main interests are in food sustainability, veganism, and exploring culture through food.

A regular Hogacre customer since 2018, Daniel is thrilled to be joining as a Food Waste Ambassador and getting to see more of how things work behind the scenes.


Weronika Skibicka

Weronika, 19, is taking a gap year before studying Psychology at university. Her time in Thailand was particularly exciting - she loved the culture and the food! She has also been volunteering with a mental health charity.

Weronika loves food and trying vegan dishes from all over the world. She is very excited to volunteer at the Cafe - she likes to express her creativity through original recipes, and is passionate about sustainability, reducing waste, and the environment.



Food Waste Ambassadors

The Cafe at Hogacre Common is teaming up with The Replenish Project to wage a war on food waste.

Our volunteer Food Waste Ambassadors transform food surplus, supplied via Oxford Food Bank, into delicious vegetarian bakes, cakes and salads for our customers. They promote messaging and take part in conversations and activities to raise public awareness of food waste.

The Replenish Project

Replenish provides people with practical tips on how to reduce their food waste and start composting. Over the last year, their ambassadors have attended over 40 events and given advice to over 1,300 people.
